When I got married, I found an incredible photographer whose work was stunning. I asked her what lenses she uses. Her answer? “Honestly, I use a 35mm for 99% of everything I do.” I thought there was no way that was true, only using a 35mm lens. There was too much variety in her photos. But she said, “No, really, you stick a 35mm on, and it captures just about everything you need. Stop focusing on what lenses you will have for this or that situation; focus solely on the composition of each shot.”
And that’s what she did for my wedding. The photos were excellent, with so much variety between photographs. You would never believe it was all on one lens. But as I learned, for most photography, unless you’re trying to do something that’s long distance, a 35mm can get you everything you want.
I became a believer in a 35mm. You should too.
